After a loss to the Penguins where Fleury and Letang showed us good by doing their Price pose imitation (turn off sarcasm), we responded with a hard fought 3-2 win over the Rangers on Saturday that was only as close as it was due to Lundquist's goaltending. We dominated most of the game and got goals from Hamrlik, Plekanec and Kostitsyn in the first to build a 3-1 lead.
It got tight in the 3rd but we held on for a much needed win.
With the East being pretty tight, any point we can take from a team just below or just above us is huge. We took all four from the Rangers this week and they took none from us.
We now have 25 wins, 24 of which will count toward the wins tiebreaker at the end of year.
We have a tough week ahead, Flames tomorrow, then Tuesday in Buffalo, Friday in Ottawa and Anaheim at home on Saturday in Saku Koivu's return to Montreal.
First up though the Flames. It used to be a big rivalry as we played each other in the Finals twice in four years in the late 80s but the Flames have done little in the post season since 1989 other than their run to the Finals in 2004 when they really won game 6 but the overtime goal was not counted (it was clearly over the line). We should win but should and doing are two different things.
