Ok, we all know Subban screwed up last Wednesday vs the Oilers. An ill advised pinch by PK and a suicide pass to Cammalleri cost us a win against an obviously vastly inferior team.
As a result, Martin sat him out on Thursday against the Devils. Then he compounded the punishment by sitting him against the Sharks as he didn't want to tinker with a winning lineup. Since we beat the Sharks, does that mean Subban has to sit out against Ottawa on Tuesday?
Face it, historically, the Canadiens have not been kind to young players (neither have the fans who constantly call for players to be sent to Hamilton for seasoning, etc. We ruined Ron Hainsey by not allowing him to make mistakes without being sat for pieces of crap like Francis Bouillon and Patrick Traverse. We benched Max Pacioretty for making mistakes, did the same to Chris Higgins (until we fired Dauterive the Dunce), screwed with Komisarek etc
We all know we have a brash mouthy potential superstar in Subban. He will screw up often because he is brash, he won't always make the safe play, he will try to do more. Good enough is not good enough for Subban, he wants to be great. Heaven forbid. We have enough guys on defence who will make the safe play, we need a brash puck mover who will do what he has to win.
If Martin continues to sit Subban out of fear he will tinker with a winning lineup, he could end up ruining Subban and lose what we might have with him.
For too long we have tried to take every player in the organization regardless of shape and fit him into a square hole. Some of our players have not fit into that square hole. Yes Subban has to play smarter at times, but we cannot take away his personality. This isn't the marines where you shave a guy's head, take away his D&G glasses and clothes while turning him into an automaton who doesn't think and who is no longer a person, this is a pro hockey team where your own personal flair has to be part of the deal.
Please Jacques, let Subban out of jail and back onto the ice on Tuesday.
