Shout out to Carey Price

Carey Price takes more abuse than any other goalie in the NHL.  He was drafted 5th overall in 2005 and while having decent numbers by 23 years old, because he has not won 3 Vezinas, 3 Stanley Cups and had a .950 save percentage already, he is crapped on by the media and worse by Canadien ``fans``.

He was even booed during the first preseason game which was a low point in Canadien fandom to say the least.

Last year he suffered through a season where no matter how well he played, he would lose the game.  He had his backup`s agent tweeting about how his client won more than Carey, he had his number one status taken from him and then had to watch Halak take us to within 3 wins of winning the Eastern Conference.  All throughout, he continued to practice hard, for the most part kept his chin up and ultimately became our starter when we traded Halak to St Louis.

So far after 7 games, only a Halak acolyte or a Price hater could complain about his play so far.  He is 4-2-1, with a save percentage over .910 and really could only be questioned on maybe 3 goals all season.

Many thought that our goaltending would be an issue this year but so far it is our second line of Gomez-Gionta and whomever gets the nod at left wing that has been the problem.

We are two games over .500 despite not having Markov play yet.  Next week we play Phoenix, Islanders twice and then the Panthers.  Four winnable games.  Auld will likely play one of the Islander games.

Still, so far this season the Price has been Right more often than not.

Goalie for the Canadiens is amongst the four toughest positions in pro sports along with QB for the Dallas Cowboys, centre field for the New York Yankees and Centre for the Boston Celtics.  If Price keeps it up, we won`t have to worry about our goaltending this year.

Other shout outs to Celine Dion on the birth of her twins, and to the San Francisco Giants on making the World Series.  I used to be an Expos fan back in the day but that franchise abandoned me long before I abandoned it.  I always liked the Giants, at least since the late 1980s.  I saw three games in Candlestick and I loved Barry Bonds.  I admit I don`t follow baseball as much as I used to but this Giants team is bringing me back to the sport.

It used to be that Dallas-San Francisco sports battles were Cowboys-49ers battles to see who would feast on AFC cannon fodder but now it is for baseball`s ultimate prize.  Giants in 6!
