I don't profess to be a world traveller, after all I have only been to five countries (six if you consider Scotland to be a separate country from England) but regardless, I have to say, France is my favourite European country.
Paris is amazing, what with the Louvres, the Champs Elysees, Musee D'Orsay, architecture, food, what could top it? I was there in 2001 and Mrs Count and I packed a ton of things into one week. We saw Napoleon's tomb, the Mona Lisa, Notre Dame, Les Invalides, Versailles and Normandy. You never really realized how young the soldiers who stormed Normandy were until you see their graves. They weren't old men like John Wayne and others in The Longest Day, they were all 18-22 (or so it seemed).
Italy is right up there, our trip there last summer was amazing, saw a ton in two weeks. From the modern to the ancient, you can see it all in Italy Florence was my favourite city there for sure. However, I have great memories from Rome, Venice, Pisa, Naples, Bologna, Assisi and Pompeii as well.
The UK was also interesting and I have been there twice, once just in London with two side tours and then London and Scotland the second time. My mom loved Scotland as her parents were born there. Watching my mom and son listening to the pipes in Glasgow will always be memorable. My mom was very touched knowing her parents might have walked the same streets we did in 2006. My son was only 2.5 at the time but he enjoyed his trip to the UK and even got to sit in the Queen's chair at Westminster Abbey. Amazing what having a cute child will get you.
Face it, just about everywhere you go in Europe is cool and I hope to see more of it in the future.
