Well last week the Cowboys made the worst kept secret in the NFL final, they removed the interim tag from Jason Garrett and made him their permanent head coach.
No one should really be surprised given Jerry Jones came close to naming him as head coach back in 2007 when he was hired as offensive coordinator. He came close to leaving for Baltimore in 2008 but turned it down. The bloom was off his rose for a bit after our bad 2008 season but he stuck around as our OC. Wade Phillips lost the team this year and as a result he was canned after a 1-7 start.
Jason moved up to head coach and the team finished 5-3 with all three losses being close hard fought battles. We would have beaten the Saints if not for a Roy Williams fumble and lost to the Cardinals after a PAT miss by Buehler.
Jerry only interviewed one other person for the job in order to meet the Rooney Rule requirements and then after that happened, he named Jason as head coach.
Given I am a red head too (well before my blonde highlights), it is nice to see a fellow red head getting the gig. Jason did bring more structure and work ethic to the team. He might not be liked by all the players because he makes them work but in the end, you don't have to like your coach, just respect him and play hard for him.
Whether the results are better next year than this year remains to be seen but there is always optimism when you have a new coach. As usual, I will pick them to win the SB next year ;)
