Whatever happened to good service?

Some of the boys from the office and I were at lunch today at a local establishment.  To say the waitress was somewhat unreceptive is an understatement.  Not really the friendliest person, she pretty much just handed us our plates, without any warning if they were hot or not.  Then when one of the boys questioned her about something on the bill, she got mighty defensive.

Now I don't know if something about us annoyed her, whether it was the fact there was no one else in the establishment so she was worried about a paucity of tips or the fact her complexion is horrible, but whatever the reason, the chances of me returning to the said establishment is minimal.  I might have a different view if the roast beef in the beef dip I had was not the same texture of my awesome looking leather jacket but alas, even the food cannot bring me back.

At least at a place like Earl's the service is good, the staff are friendly and you are treated like you are important.
