Given I was off, I took Count Jr to his hockey school today. I had seen him at his hockey school previously but today I did the full meal deal, picked him up from school, drove him there, and watched the entire practice.
I was very impressed with the drills and how Count Jr improved over the hour. The entire hour consisted of puck handling drills. I believe I have stated that is the weakest part of Count Jr's game, mostly because we live in a tower so no driveway to play ball hockey and being almost the youngest in his age group, he is not as coordinated as others.
Well today, it was back and forth, stickhandling on forehand, middlehand and backhand, up and down the ice, with the instructor having them take their gloves off to see their hand positioning and how they were holding the stick.
Then they did figure eights between their gloves.
I was amazed at what they were doing and how much better Count Jr was by the end of the hour.
Hockey lessons are expensive, (300 for 10 hours) but it is all worth it. I know Count Jr wouldn't have the six goals he has so far this year without the extra training at this school. I am really looking forward to seeing how he translates today's drills into his game tomorrow.
I am definitely a disciple of this instructor.
