Well every year the same issue comes up, should say a one loss team from the SEC be in the BCS Championship over a no loss team from a small conference. The small school honks always rail on the system, claiming they are being frozen out etc while the big school honks claim there is no way the small school would be able to handle the big school etc.
This year there is still a possibility for a small school from an insignificant conference gets into the championship game. Auburn still has to play its huge intra state rival, Alabama on Friday in the Iron Bowl. To further make Auburn's road difficult, it has to play the Iron Bowl in Tuscaloosa this year, not the friendly confines of Jordan-Hare stadium in Auburn.
So what happens if Auburn loses? Well one would expect them to move down at least two spots allowing small school Boise State to move up to the championship game but really, is that fair? There is NO way Boise State would be able to stay close to Auburn as there defence could never stop Auburn superstar Cam Newton.
Auburn plays in the toughest conference in college football. Three of the twelve SEC schools are in the BCS top 10, Auburn 1, LSU 6 and Alabama 10. LSU beat Alabama, is 10-1 with its only loss being to Auburn on the road in Auburn. Alabama lost to Arkansas and LSU both on the road. Auburn is 11-0 with Alabama on the road and the SEC Championship against South Carolina in early December. LSU finishes with Arkansas on the road.
LSU and Auburn was a close game all the way and I am convinced LSU would destroy Oregon, Boise State, Texas Christian University and Wisconsin (who is only ahead of LSU because it deliberately ran up the score on Big 10 minnow Indiana and put up 83 points.
I watch the SEC game of the week on CBS every week and some of those teams would give the CFL teams trouble.
I understand the argument that if you do not win your conference (and LSU cannot), you should not be in the BCS championship but since the BCS is supposed to have the best two teams in college footbal in the game, how about a rematch between LSU and Auburn. Ah perchance to dream.
Then again, I almost hope Boise State gets into the championship against Auburn (assuming Oregon loses to rival Oregon State in Corvallis) because once Auburn hangs 50 on them, we will never have to hear about Boise State getting screwed over again.
