Ho Hum another shutout

Canada's Team took on the Leafs tonight and beat them 2-0 at the Bell Centre in Montreal.

A shorthanded goal by Jeff Halpern in the second and a power play goal by Mike Cammalleri in the third were all we needed as Carey Price earned first star by stopping 29 shots en route to his fourth shutout of the season.  It is also his third in the last six starts (Vancouver November 9 and Philadelphia November 15 being the other two).  No Canadiens' goalie has done that since Jacques Plante in the 1950-s.

It was also our first shutout of the Leafs since Ken Dryden did it 5-0 back in November 1977.  I have to admit I was shocked to see that stat.

Major kudos to Mike Komisarek for his brilliant pass to Mike Cammalleri on our second goal.  Problem of course is that Komisarek plays for the Leafs.

Solid effort by the defence including a brilliant play by Hal Gill who used his huge wing span to knock the puck of Phil Kessel's stick late in the third.

Only downside was our inability to score an empty net goal.  For whatever reason, historically, we have been brutal scoring empty net goals.

Flyers on Monday are next.

  1. Not a big surprise the Leafs played in the Clarence Campbell Conference for most of the 80s and a chunk of the 90s! While the Habs played in the Prince of Wales Conference during the same era.
